Psalm 17 – Why Should God Answer Our Prayers?

Welcome to our Summer of Psalms, Vol. 2 sermon series. This summer, we will pick up where we left off from last summer’s study through the Psalms. Martin Luther called the Psalms “the Bible in miniature.” They are wonderful because, unlike other genres of Scripture that speak to us, the Psalms “speak for us” (Athanasius). We begin volume 2 of our study through Psalms with chapter 17. In this sermon, Dr. Andrew White helps us understand how to pray when we are falsely accused by enemies. David presents his prayer to God in three pleas followed by supporting rationale for why God should answer his request.

I. God Hears the Prayers of the Righteous (vv. 1–5)
II. God Hears the Prayers of His Beloved People (vv. 6–12)
III. God Hears the Prayers of the Faithful (vv. 13–15)
