SERMON: Philemon 8–25

This is sermon #2 in our series called “One-Hit Wonders,” where we will examine each of the one-chapter books in the Bible. (Please forgive us for missing the first sermon in the series due to technical difficulties. You can read the sermon outline HERE).

We started our series with Paul’s letter to Philemon. In this letter, Paul urges Philemon to forgive a newly converted Christian named Onesimus, who had previously stolen from and wronged Philemon. In this sermon from Philemon verses 8–25, Josh Perkins points to our need to forgive others in the same way that God has forgiven us. He also reminds us how this short letter reveals the gospel: like Paul did for Onesimus, Jesus, the just and innocent party, appeals to God on our behalf for forgiveness of our trespasses.
